Food for thought

Sometimes, when the weather is unkind I love to walk round food halls. My two favourites are Central Market and Pasadena Foodland. They are a feast for the senses!                  There's also Marion food court and Burnside if I want a change of scenery

The little Germanic town in the Adelaide Hills is certainly a tourist attraction but the Covid restrictions mean the few visitors that do come are mainly locals rather than from out of the state. We make a point of going there a couple of times a month to have coffee, lunch or to stock up on fruit and vegetables at the amazing Vegetable Market  Worth checking out some of the great vineyards for wine tasting or a choco-vino experience. Hans Heysen's house is a lovely place to visit if you like Australian artists and history

Between the showers

Its been a long cold and wet Spring and some days it's almost impossible to get out for a walk.  Luckily there are a few nice short walks close to home such as Thalassa Park, Byards Wetlands and Minkara Park Bushland Walk, so if the rain starts suddenly we're less than 10 minutes away.   My alternative is to walk in water at the pool or walk on the spot indoor with my headphones on and loud disco music playing at 128 beats/steps per minute.  Roll on Summer...... we even had hail and ice yesterday! Byards is a hive of activity for wildlife. I tend to avoid it on hot early summer days when the brown snakes are more active

Wine anyone?

With McLaren Vale on my doorstep and the Barossa less than an hour away, it's not surprising that I love visiting South Australia's premium vineyards.... more than one for each day of the year One of my favourite coffee stops is at the McLaren Vale visitors centre. One of these days I plan to cycle part of the Shiraz Trail but for now I'm content to amble along the paths through the vines or visit one or 2 of the Cellar Doors for a tasting Once covid restrictions lifted it will be good to get back to Willunga Market on a Saturday morning and also visit the annual Almond Blossom Festival again D'Arenburgs Cube is always worth a visit. The art, including Salvador Dali sculptures, is amazing .

The day started with me looking to buy some insoles for Clive's bowling shoes. Got them AND two pairs of comfy leather shoes for myself for less than the price of one pair, then on to the Visitors Centre at McLaren Vale for coffee, frittata and a walk round the gardens and art exhibition Dropped some worry worms off (RACKs) at the Jungle in Willunga before heading home via Chapel Hill. Popped into Coriole winery and took some pictures in their garden Discovered a distillery which is only open on the last Saturday of the month and was invited in for a free small group tasting event.... three unique whiskeys and a couple of gins! Made my way home very carefully, luckily it was less than 15 minutes away and the roads were quiet.

The Hills are alive.....

Sometimes I just want to stand there, arms outstretched and sing....don't worry, it doesn't happen in real life but the views, especially in Autumn, can get you like that  Whether it's from Mount Lofty or Mount Barker, the views are always awe inspiring. A Mecca for wine lovers and Foodies. Check out Stirling, Uraidla, Carey Gully and Aldgate too It's good to see the townships affected by the bushfires slowly returning to normal again. We happened to be having a coffee in Lobethal Bakery when Cosi popped in to film a segment for his Sunday TV show.

I love exploring North Terrace. There are museums and galleries galore and fascinating buildings tucked away in side streets Some lovely views from the riverbank too, especially if you love our Oval
