Brighton UK v Brighton, SA....and beyond

Image
UK Brighton is a seaside resort and one of the two main areas of the City of Brighton and Hove. Located on the southern coast of England, in the county of East Sussex, it is 47 miles south of London. Archaeological evidence of settlement in the area dates back to the Bronze Age, Roman and Anglo-Saxon periods.  It it famous for its Esplanade, Royal Pavilion, the Lanes quaint shopping streets, Palace Pier and funfair and Volk's railway narrow gauge electric railway. Although Brighton's famous  pebble beaches  are now lined with souvenir shops and amusement arcades, it remains a culturally vibrant destination and one of the most popular places to visit in England — especially in summer. It is the nearest seaside town south of London. ABBA won the Eurovision song contest here in 1974 and Anita Roddick opened the first Body Shop 2 years later. AUSTRALIA  Meanwhile the much smaller relaxed Brighton, to the West of Adelaide CBD, attracts visitors to its sandy beach for swimming, pad

Carrick Hill

Image
Carrick Hill is a publicly accessible historic property at the foot of the Adelaide Hills, in the suburb of Springfield, in South Australia. It was the Adelaide home of Sir Edward "Bill" Hayward and his wife Ursula, and contains a large collection of drawings, sculptures, antiques and paintings. Today we took a brief stroll round the gardens, saving the storybook walk for another day. The roses were at their best and the small formal garden contains many unusual flowers and shrubs as well as the impressive pear arch

Roses galore

Image
Time for another trip to the Adelaide Botanical Gardens...... this time to see the roses.  The colours were stunning but the perfume not quite as strong as earlier in the day when it is at its optimum to attract pollinators Nice to manage over an hour of walking after my enforced rest of the last week. Hopefully I have this flare up under control and can increase my steps again gradually.

FU.... I'm having a break .... and an early night!

No, I'm not being rude..... just experiencing a 'Flare Up' caused by being over zealous. Need to cut back the walking and rest a little more till in inflammation goes away. Rather overdid the step routine at aqua last Wednesday. Perhaps 5 sets of 20 each side was pushing it a bit even in deep water. Knees are fine but the surrounding muscles are complaining. Got up at 5.00am this morning to get to McLaren Vale for a sunrise recording... no sun but we had fun and the rain stayed away. It's 9.30pm and I'm ready for bed. Struggling to get warm all day and wish I hadn't burst both my hotwater bottles. Think I may need to invest in an electric blanket if this cold weather carries on

Sturt River, Coromandel

Image
The Sturt River Linear Park is a continuous parkland running from Glenelg North to Coromandel Valley. A shared-use trail has been constructed through Coromandel Valley, in the City of Onkaparinga. Another shared-use trail has been constructed  between South Road and Anzac Highway . It’s possible to link the two shared-use trails together by using the trails in  Craigburn Farm and Sturt Gorge Recreation Park . This 2km trail links Frank Smith Park and the historic Institute building at Coromandel Valley, and includes picnic shelters. It was also a chance for me to drop off more 'worry worms' (RACKs) to cheer people up. I hang them in trees, attach to benches or picnic tables with an encouraging message and poem. "I am not lost but all alone, if I made you smile please take me home!"

Onkaparinga River

The City of Onkaparinga is a local government area located on the southern fringe of Adelaide, South Australia. It is named after the Onkaparinga River, whose name comes from Ngangkiparinga, a Kaurna word meaning women's river.  The Onkaparinga River begins its journey in the Mount Lofty Ranges, between Mount Torrens and Charleston and the river's estuary extends from Old Noarlunga to the river's mouth between the suburbs of Port Noarlunga and Port Noarlunga South (Southport) In the early years Onkaparinga was renowned for its quality Australian wool blankets, and over the years they dwindled into history with quilts and comforters taking over in popularity. There are many beautiful walks along its course but I love the river mouth where it joins the sea. The tides, wind and weather change the outlook constantly and I never get tired of taking pictures of it from the cliffs above. It's popular with surfers and kayakers too.
