Warm Woodland Walk

Yet another trip to Happy Valley reservoir, this time a shortish circular walk from the Manning Road entrance 


Although there were plenty of trees, including endangered species like grey box, the sandy firetrack is kept clear so there's very little shade. The deep ditch around the reservoir made it impossible to get closer to the waters edge (unless you're a kangaroo) but plenty of birds around in this less frequented spot.





I think I'll stick to walks starting at the 2 main Chandlers Hill entrances for now ..... a bit kinder to walk on. The whole outer circuit is 11.5km!

Fast Start ... the journey begins

Well, I decided to bite the bullet and try TWD 'Fast Start'. I've been on various meal plans for over 3 years but, after a good initial loss, Covid and life in general got in the way and there's been very little progress since. My reasons for trying this? 1. I need a fresh start and new focus  2. I have upcoming surgery and need recovery time (my husband can't cook) so want to simplify things  3 As a 'Group Expert' I'd like to be better informed PREPARATION DAY and DAY ONE ... discovering the pitfalls Set up was fun. The Journey Begins

After a couple of years of constant knee pain, I started trials with an Adelaide University looking at ways to improve my mobility and reduce pain by learning, setting and reviewing goals, doing gentle exercise and embarking on a walking programme.   My journey began in June 2021 and here I am 3 months later , much improved and sharing some of my favourite walks. Many have been done several times, others just once but hope to try again and a few I hope to attempt in the near future as my fitness levels improve. I firmly believe that OA need not end in surgery and that there are many things I can do to alleviate pain without taking medication, exercise will help not hinder progress and that this condition will not get progressively worse. I set my first goal - to walk to the Punchbowl lookout at Onkaparinga Gorge. This gently sloping walk on firm gravel takes just under an hour with photo stops and is approximately 2km long.
