The City of Onkaparinga is a local government area located on the southern fringe of Adelaide, South Australia. It is named after the Onkaparinga River, whose name comes from Ngangkiparinga, a Kaurna word meaning women's river.  The Onkaparinga River begins its journey in the Mount Lofty Ranges, between Mount Torrens and Charleston and the river's estuary extends from Old Noarlunga to the river's mouth between the suburbs of Port Noarlunga and Port Noarlunga South (Southport)  In the early years Onkaparinga was renowned for its quality Australian wool blankets, and over the years they dwindled into history with quilts and comforters taking over in popularity.  There are many beautiful walks along its course but I love the river mouth where it joins the sea.
