Easy Walks (2)

Image
I like my walks short (30 minutes is fine), not too steep and with something nice or interesting to look at along the way... lakes, flowers, seashore or something picturesque. I love variety and a chance to take some pictures along the way. Buildings can be fun too. While I'm not a fan of graffiti, wall art can be amazing A walk around Port Adelaide is fun and you can often see dolphins frolicking in the River. Plenty of great coffee shops around. I love this one that is a shipping container perched above the river and accessed across a drawbridge

Parked on the West Beach side of the Marina and crossed the lock to Marina Square.   Enjoyed coffee and cake at Banjo's Bakery in Moseley Square before heading back. Blustery day with lots of grey clouds at times but avoided the occasional spring shower

Don't let the blue sky deceive you. It is a cool 12° with a stiff breeze. Port Noarlunga always looks good on a day like this and plenty of eateries nearby to tempt you or a good coffee to warm you up.

Botanical Gardens Galore... City and Wittunga

BOTANICAL GARDENS IN THE CITY AND WITTUNGA, BLACKWOOD The Botanical Gardens on North Terrace are always worth a visit but are at their best in Spring before the heat and dry weather of Summer slows growth. I n September, the Bicentenar y Glass House is full of lush growth and the Wisteria Arch puts on its annual show.     Giant waterlilies are coming into bloom and the rill adds a sound dimension to a peaceful avenue leading to the Garden Centre and display of scarecrows Although the lotus flowers are absent, the lakes are fringed with irises, pampas grasses and arum lilies.  If you sit quietly you soon begin to notice all the birds butterflies and insects going about their business. The stunning wisteria arch is always worth a visit in early September but its a little late this year and not quite at its peak when I visited WITTUNGA Wittunga is an oasis in the foothills.  Planting includes a lot of species from south Africa (similar climate, so grow well here) L...

Conquered the Sugarloaf

I had originally planned to walk the Glacial Walk at Hallett Cove in early summer before it got too hot but managed it today... more than 3 months early. Lots of uneven steps, up and down and muddy steep patches after yesterday's heavy rain but managed OK with no slipups this time. Did the slightly shorter version as we were joined by a large group of teenagers from a Northern suburbs school..... maybe next month when the rain finally eases up

Easy Walks around Adelaide part 1

Image
Here are some of my favourite walks around Adelaide - all mainly flat and take around 30 minutes each Hahndorf High Street.  This is a beautiful (Touristy) Germanic township up in the Adelaide Hills.  You can pick up a leaflet in the Information and follow a Historic Walk or just take a  gentle stroll up one side and down the other. There is plenty to see and admire along the way from quaint shops, gardens and specialist food shops and Cellar Doors, to cafes, bakeries, coffee shops and hotels.  Hahndorf is beautiful in any season but stunning in the Autumn and full of fun during the Christmas markets. It can get very busy in Summer and parking in the main street difficult but there are lots of other car parks and a quick detour to the Fruit and Vegetable Market on the edge of town on the way home is always worth the visit. The Journey Begins

Image
After a couple of years of constant knee pain, I started trials with an Adelaide University looking at ways to improve my mobility and reduce pain by learning, setting and reviewing goals, doing gentle exercise and embarking on a walking programme.   My journey began in June 2021 and here I am 3 months later , much improved and sharing some of my favourite walks. Many have been done several times, others just once but hope to try again and a few I hope to attempt in the near future as my fitness levels improve. I firmly believe that OA need not end in surgery and that there are many things I can do to alleviate pain without taking medication, exercise will help not hinder progress and that this condition will not get progressively worse. I set my first goal - to walk to the Punchbowl lookout at Onkaparinga Gorge. This gently sloping walk on firm gravel takes just under an hour with photo stops and is approximately 2km long. I completed it on 22nd AUGUST! I was certainly o...
