Brighton UK v Brighton, SA....and beyond
UK
Brighton is a seaside resort and one of the two main areas of the City of Brighton and Hove. Located on the southern coast of England, in the county of East Sussex, it is 47 miles south of London. Archaeological evidence of settlement in the area dates back to the Bronze Age, Roman and Anglo-Saxon periods.
It it famous for its Esplanade, Royal Pavilion, the Lanes quaint shopping streets, Palace Pier and funfair and Volk's railway narrow gauge electric railway.
Although Brighton's famous pebble beaches are now lined with souvenir shops and amusement arcades, it remains a culturally vibrant destination and one of the most popular places to visit in England — especially in summer. It is the nearest seaside town south of London.
ABBA won the Eurovision song contest here in 1974 and Anita Roddick opened the first Body Shop 2 years later.
AUSTRALIA
Meanwhile the much smaller relaxed Brighton, to the West of Adelaide CBD, attracts visitors to its sandy beach for swimming, paddleboarding and kitesurfing, and the long Brighton Jetty is a popular fishing spot. Jetty Road is lined with ice cream parlours, low-key eateries and quirky gift and fashion stores, while the art deco Windsor Theatres shows mainstream and arthouse films. Angus Neill Reserve has barbecue areas and a playground.
