Headed out to the Southern Flinders via Port Wakefield (coffee) and St Germein (lunch)
Clive admiring the Pink Lake Bumbunga and monster at Lochiel
On to our camp-site at Wilmington via the Gorge and Melrose. Beautiful sunset but noisy with the cockatoos coming home to roost. Visited by possums after dark and had fun feeding them .... so cute and tame
After a couple of years of constant knee pain, I started trials with an Adelaide University looking at ways to improve my mobility and reduce pain by learning, setting and reviewing goals, doing gentle exercise and embarking on a walking programme. My journey began in June 2021 and here I am 3 months later , much improved and sharing some of my favourite walks. Many have been done several times, others just once but hope to try again and a few I hope to attempt in the near future as my fitness levels improve. I firmly believe that OA need not end in surgery and that there are many things I can do to alleviate pain without taking medication, exercise will help not hinder progress and that this condition will not get progressively worse. I set my first goal - to walk to the Punchbowl lookout at Onkaparinga Gorge. This gently sloping walk on firm gravel takes just under an hour with photo stops and is approximately 2km long. Chose the wrong day for a trip to the Hills. Hahndorf and Stirling grey, cloudy, occasional drizzle and 11° ... started brightening up when I left. Had a short walk at Woorabinda but boardwalk is closed for repair Our side of the hill, warm sunshine, blue skies and 19°. 21 in the City. Had to sit in my car at the top of the hill with the sun streaming in the windows to warm up. At least the fridge is full after a visit to the Fruit Market
TWD is based on food units and discourages calorie counting for good reason..... Not all calories are equal. TWD has a large amount of food in bulk but much of it contains water and is therefore lower in calories. I've eaten a well balanced diet for over 20 years, the last 4 on TWB and this has helped lower my cholesterol, BP and HbA1c so it appears that TWD only differs in the quantity of food I'm eating. I'm still in the obese range with at least another 15kgs to lose but age, stress, medication and inactivity make this really difficult at times. Even level one appears too much for me at the moment. A few years ago I tried Light n Easy for a few months. I lost a couple of kilos in the early weeks but finished heavier than I started. The portions were small and snacks carb heavy! TWD is certainly satisfying and I'm rarely hungry but I really be...
