Delights and Disappointments

It's been a week of highs and lows here in Hobart but overall we've had a great time, seen lots of new places, made new friends and did most of what we came here for.

The week started badly when we got up just before 4.00am to learn of cancelled and delayed flights. We arrived 14 hours late, just before midnight and therefore couldn't do our trip to MONA (although Clive managed to get there later in the week and also 2 trips to Blundstone Arena for cricket)

Hanging Gardens event was OK but freezing cold. Pub sing was low key and short but ConFusion did well. The long uphill walk there and back was punishing.

Glad I had a chance to see a bit of the city on the open-top bus. The 24 hour ticket meant Clive got a free ride too the next morning. Enjoyed watching the quartets and our Chorus Corral performance was especially fun and well received. Probably my best memory to hold on to from the whole competition.

Sadly missed nearly all the choruses as we had a rehearsal and another uphill walk (mainly practicing walking on and off and tune ups which I felt unnecessary and too late) Hopefully the streamed performances will be available to watch. The show on the final night, however, was spectacular with a Guest appearance from the Velvatones.

I got to see Salamanca Square though not the actual Saturday markets as we had another quick rehearsal on the windy wharf. Our final performance in the Festival Theatre was a little disappointing.... couldn't hear the pitch or other side of Chorus and a lot of wrong notes made it hard for me to hold my part. At least the choreography and scarf reveal worked. The evaluations were helpful and fair.

It was a very inclusive event and everyone was welcoming and encouraging. I found BHA is so much more fun,  encouraging and uplifting than Sweet Adelines and overall I'm glad to be part of this ground breaking event.
