Laratinga Wetlands

Image
Always a pleasure to take a stroll around the wetlands near Bald Hill, Mount Barker, even on a dull day. It was a bit grey and chilly but soon worked up a sweat doing a complete circuit including board walks. Always amazed at the huge variety of birds here and the amazing sounds. Even the fairy wrens stood still long enough for me to take a picture. Finished #my daily walk doing 150% of my normal steps. Bought a new wooden chopping board in the kitchen shop and tried out a new coffee shop (Lady Luck)

Public Holiday following the Queen's funeral

Image
Spent today's public holiday in McLaren Vale and the coast. Enjoyed a coffee, cake and Ginny Pig G&T (Pink berry gin for and a spiced Fig one for me)   Then a short beach walk at Moana. Lots of sea grass and big waves at high water but warm and no sea breezes   Finally another short walk at South Port Noarlunga  and a sit in the sunshine watching the surfers and boarders

Farewell Your Majesty ...  The pictures say it all

Rain, rain, go away....

Image
Had hoped Spring had arrived but it was short lived with more cold, wet and windy days than fine ones. Managed a very quick walk at the Reservoir before being forced backside to warm up and stay dry. Brrrr, grrrrr. 3 days later and I haven't set foot outside.... not good

Hahndorf...chasing the sun

Image
What a difference a day makes Yesterday (Tuesday) the sun put in a brief appearance and it even got to 20° so we headed for the hills for lunch at the Old Mill Hotel and a walk round Hahndorf. I even managed to find a decent sharpener for my 'Global' knives in the old knife shop....bonus! The clouds were putting in an appearance by the time we headed for home and, at the moment, days like this are few and far between. Winter really doesn't want to say goodbye yet. Sadly Sping has temporarily disappeared and strong winds, rain and cold weather have returned. Making use of every opportunity to get out when the sun shines but sadly, this year, it is not happening very much It looks like la Nina has returned which means we'll have a wetter Spring and Summer than normal.... not what I wanted to hear. The rain is lashing down outside today and the strong wind is rattling the doors and windows. I think Clive's bowls might be cancelled. Heating on and back to the winter woo

Queen Elizabeth RIP

Thank you Your Majesty for a life well lived ...RIP You had an amazing life of dedication and service carried out with grace and charm. You promised to spend your life serving your country and commonwealth and you certainty fulfilled that promise. Just over 24 hours ago I wrote this.... She is devastated by the loss of her precious husband and lifelong friend, Philip, and I fear that now all the 70th Jubilee Celebrations are over, her broken heart may not mend. She is at peace in her beloved Balmoral with her memories. As a devout Christian she is unafraid of the future and perhaps looks forward to the day they will be reunited I have been asked to provide a short recording of reflection and prayer for Premier Radio in London. Just over 25 years ago, Clive was at the studio with Rob Frost about to start 'Frost on Sunday' when the news of Princess Diana's death broke. Feeling the same sense of shock, loss and bewilderment today as the enormity of the occasion and its implic

Short-lived Spring sunshine?

Image
Having walked 7 days in a row, I might have to take a short break as heavy rain is forecast for the next few days. It reached 19° at Christies Beach today so Clive had to have a Gelato as well as his large flat white. Let's hope Spring returns quickly. I was getting to like the warm sun on my back. Time to buy some more sunscreen and look out my sun hat.... hopefully I'll need it soon.
