Hahndorf...chasing the sun

What a difference a day makes

Yesterday (Tuesday) the sun put in a brief appearance and it even got to 20° so we headed for the hills for lunch at the Old Mill Hotel and a walk round Hahndorf. I even managed to find a decent sharpener for my 'Global' knives in the old knife shop....bonus!








The clouds were putting in an appearance by the time we headed for home and, at the moment, days like this are few and far between. Winter really doesn't want to say goodbye yet.




Sadly Sping has temporarily disappeared and strong winds, rain and cold weather have returned. Making use of every opportunity to get out when the sun shines but sadly, this year, it is not happening very much


It looks like la Nina has returned which means we'll have a wetter Spring and Summer than normal.... not what I wanted to hear. The rain is lashing down outside today and the strong wind is rattling the doors and windows. I think Clive's bowls might be cancelled. Heating on and back to the winter woollies today

Today

Thunder claps and short but very heavy frequent downpours. Don't think there'll be much bowls going on today. Checking out my music for both choirs with shows, concerts, bootcamps and competitions coming up. 18 songs to get up to scratch but nearly there.... notes and words pretty much without music OK but breath patterns and performance techniques need work. Finally ditched the masks, thank goodness

Fast Start ... the journey begins

Well, I decided to bite the bullet and try TWD 'Fast Start'. I've been on various meal plans for over 3 years but, after a good initial loss, Covid and life in general got in the way and there's been very little progress since. My reasons for trying this? 1. I need a fresh start and new focus  2. I have upcoming surgery and need recovery time (my husband can't cook) so want to simplify things  3 As a 'Group Expert' I'd like to be better informed PREPARATION DAY and DAY ONE ... discovering the pitfalls Set up was fun. Firstly, I managed to start immediately instead of just previewing, so my first day became week 2! Next I found I'd set level 2 (much as I'd like extra milk for coffee, I certainly don't need three shakes) Then I got an email asking for my weight and picture... really? The Journey Begins

After a couple of years of constant knee pain, I started trials with an Adelaide University looking at ways to improve my mobility and reduce pain by learning, setting and reviewing goals, doing gentle exercise and embarking on a walking programme.   My journey began in June 2021 and here I am 3 months later , much improved and sharing some of my favourite walks. Many have been done several times, others just once but hope to try again and a few I hope to attempt in the near future as my fitness levels improve. I firmly believe that OA need not end in surgery and that there are many things I can do to alleviate pain without taking medication, exercise will help not hinder progress and that this condition will not get progressively worse. I set my first goal - to walk to the Punchbowl lookout at Onkaparinga Gorge. This gently sloping walk on firm gravel takes just under an hour with photo stops and is approximately 2km long.
